Tatty Devine

Tatty Devine

     Rosie Wolfenden and Harriet Vine
Fashion junkies: Tatty Devine

(Filed: 02/07/2005)

Rosie Wolfenden and Harriet Vine met while studying Fine Art at the Chelsea College of Art, and started making accessories in 1999 when they fashioned leather cuffs from a sample book found dumped outside a furniture store. They now have two London shops - on Brick Lane and in Soho - and their spring/summer collection is full of their distinctive wit, with jewellery inspired by cuckoo clocks, Rubik's cubes and those little stickers on fruit (020-7739 9009; tattydevine.com).

What is on your wish list this season? Rosie: Harriet is looking for a tulip-shaped skirt, and I'd like anything from the Miu Miu spring/summer collection.

What do you wear to work? We dress up the whole time - we live our lives in fancy dress, really. We're both very keen on the 1940s land girl-ish look - Harriet's worn plus-fours a lot recently.

Who are your favourite designers? Eley Kishimoto, Bernard Wilhelm, Peter Jensen, Basso & Brooke and Ashish.

What has been your biggest fashion indulgence? I bought an Eley Kishimoto rain mac, and Harriet got the House of Jazz stiletto-print dress a few seasons ago.

Which are your favourite shops? We are very into food and Harriet loves the Italian deli Fratelli Camisa (camisa.co.uk) on Old Compton Street, London W1. My favourite is Radio Days, a vintage shop near Waterloo selling clothes and other collectables (radiodaysvintage.co.uk).

Which are you favourite shops abroad? We both love Surface 2 Air (surface2air.com), a boutique in Paris which also has a gallery space.

Who makes the best handbags? Mimi (mimimika.com). And the best shoes? Miu Miu - I love the bright-green patent ones from their current collection - and Eley Kishimoto. We've started making our own shoes as part of our spring/summer collection - my favourites are the newspaper-print brogue jazz shoes we did, and the turquoise-and-pink stilettos with bone detail - sort of cavegirl chic (from Poste Mistress, 61 Monmouth Street, London WC2; 020-7379 4040).

Which are your favourite hotels? We visit Paris most often, but usually rent an apartment because then we can have parties. We try to stay around the Etienne Marcel area near the Kokon To Zai shop (48 rue Tiquetonne). There is a brilliant street market selling lots of lovely food nearby.

Which is your favourite bar? We like going to Stag O Lee - a weekly gambling night which goes on late, held at the New Evaristo Club (57 Greek Street, London W1).

Which is your favourite cafe? There's a coffee bar which is part of Scooterworks, a scooter shop (132 Lower Marsh, London SE1; scooterworks-uk.com). They have a beautiful old Italian coffee maker and it's a great place to sit and gaze at the mod boys.

Which is your favourite restaurant? We go to Les Trois Garçons (1 Club Row, London E1, lestroisgarcons.com) for a treat.

What is your biggest beauty extravagance? We both try to buy petrochemical-free products, which can get really expensive. Cowshed's ranges are really nice (cowshedproducts.com), and Neal's Yard base lotions, to which you can add essential oils (nealsyardremedies.com).
